What We Do
Oral Health Lab is an independent publication covering oral hygiene research and habits. We translate peer-reviewed dental science into plain-language articles that help people make genuinely better decisions about their daily routines.
Every article we publish starts with published research — clinical trials, systematic reviews, journal studies. Our contributors are dental professionals and health researchers who write for general audiences, not for academic journals. We cite our sources. We don't sensationalize. And we're transparent about when something is settled science versus an emerging hypothesis.
Editorial Standards
We follow a strict editorial process. Every factual claim is sourced to peer-reviewed literature, and we link directly to studies where possible. When the science is mixed or early, we say so. Our writers and editors do not accept payment from dental product manufacturers for editorial coverage.
Like many independent publications, we may earn commissions through affiliate links — when we recommend a product, we disclose this clearly. These relationships do not influence our editorial content. If we recommend something, it's because the research and our team's experience supports the recommendation.
Why Oral Health
Oral health is dramatically underdiscussed relative to its impact. The research connecting gum disease to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and systemic inflammation is substantial — yet most people know almost nothing about it. The basics of effective oral hygiene are frequently misunderstood even by people who consider themselves diligent.
We started this publication because the information gap felt unnecessary. The science exists. The communication just hasn't caught up. That's what we're here to fix.
Research-Backed
Every claim is grounded in published clinical research. We link to studies and distinguish settled science from emerging evidence.
Editorially Independent
We don't accept editorial payments from brands. Affiliate relationships are disclosed and never influence what we write or recommend.
Expert Contributors
Our articles are written by licensed dental professionals and reviewed by our editorial team before publication.
Our Contributors
Our writers include general dentists, periodontists, dental hygienists, and health researchers. We ask that all contributors disclose potential conflicts of interest before writing. Articles are reviewed by at least one additional expert before publication.
We are a small, independent team. We don't have a venture-backed budget or a corporate parent. What we have is a commitment to getting the information right, and a belief that people make better decisions when they understand the science behind their habits.
Get In Touch
We welcome article pitches from dental professionals, feedback on our reporting, and questions from readers. If you've spotted an error, please let us know — corrections are important to us and we'll publish them prominently.
